Assalamu'alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakaatuh.
Welcome back to my blog.
In this blog I will submit an article about Giving Suggestions and Offering to do Something. And in this blog I will also give examples of conversations about Giving Suggestions and Offering to do Something with my friend Lutfi Kharisma.

GIVING SUGGESTION AND OFFERING TO DO SOMETHING

Suggestions
If we make a suggestion, it means that we mention a possible course of action to someone. There are a number of expressions which we can use to make suggestions.

Asking for Suggestions

Shall I/We + Verb 1
Example :     Shall we go home early today?
  •   What shall I say to my parents?
  •   Do you have any suggestion?
  •   What do you recommend?
  •   Do you have any advice for me?
  •   Will you give me some suggestion, please?
  •   Any idea?
  •   Can you give me some advice about…?

Giving Suggestion
  • Could
Ex:
-You could go home early
-You could get a new job
  •  Might
Ex :You might tell your problem to your parents
  • Should
Ex:
-You Should see the doctor
-You should finish your homework immediately
  • How about/ What about + -ing
Ex ;
-How about starting a book club?
-What about opening your present now?
  • How about+ Simple Present?
Ex : How about I pick you up et eight o’clock on my way to the airport?
  • How about and What about + noun phrase
Ex :
A : Are you hungry?
B : Yeah, how about some lunch?

We often find it in advertising:
  • Why not ...? and why don't ...?
Ex : Why not take a break in the south west?

To make a specific suggestion:
Ex : You look really red Why don't you toke some time out and rest?
  • Lets... and let's not...
Ex :Let’s call Michael and see if he knows how to fix H.

Another example :

  • You need/ought to…
  • You had better…
  • You ought to…
  • I think you should….
  • I advise you to…
  • I suggest you to…
  • I suggest that you….
  • I recommend you to…
  • Maybe you should….
  • If were you, I would...
  • If were in your situation, I would...
  • You had better..
  • Have you thought about...?
  • I would you recommend that you...
Accepting suggestion
  • Sure, let's do H then.
  • Yeah that's a good idea.
  • Sure, why not?
Declining suggestion
  • Maybe some other time
  • Sorry, I can't go
  • I don't think H's a good idea
  • I'm affraid I can't
  • I'd rather doing something else
This is an example of a dialogue that I took from the website https://www.sederet.com/tutorial/example-dialog-suggestion-offer-memberi-saran-target/
A: Excuse me, sir.
B: Yes?
A: Do you mind not to smoke here?
B: What’s your problem? There’s no sign that says it’s forbidden to smoke in this area. It means that I         can smoke here.
A: That’s true, but this is a public area. Your cigarette is harmful for all people here.
B: People aren’t complaining except you.
A: I don’t want to make a scene here, so I suggest you to smoke somewhere else. Can’t you see?         There’re many children here.
B: All right. I’ll leave and smoke somewhere else.
A: Thank you. I appreciate that.
